The people of Pembroke Port are integral to delivering a positive impact on the local economy and community. With such a variety of people involved in operations and business activity, from the Port team, to supply chain businesses located in the former Royal Dockyard area, and beyond, we love to shine the spotlight on individuals from across the business community here.

This month, we're featuring Chris Oliver, the Quayside Operations Manager at Pembroke Port.

Name: Chris Oliver

Can you tell us about your role and the team you work with?

I am the Quayside Operations Manager for Pembroke Port which consists of two cargo berths and one RoRo berth.

I have over 50 employees in my team, including stevedores, security teams and public facing roles.

My main focus is maintaining safe working practices across my area whilst ensuring we are able to provide the best possible service to our customers.

What kind of duties do you and your team undertake in a typical day?

My job is extremely diverse, I could be dealing with an issue on-site, participating in meetings with Government officials and other ports on issues surrounding leaving the EU, or reviewing procedures.

What is the best thing about working at Pembroke Port?

Honestly, I still enjoy seeing interesting ships and large cranes operating in the port!

Which activity at the Port most interests you and why?

Working on getting new cargoes coming into Pembroke Port and then seeing them arrive.

We all want to make Pembroke Port a success and to see it grow and of course it’s a bonus getting to see all the interesting ships and plant working.

Have you got any special skills/talents or hobbies?

I don’t particularly have any special hidden talents, I used to practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but I spend most of my free time with my girls.

I also have a pet bearded dragon called Roberta!
