Mariners are reminded that the practice of weighting heaving lines with infills of metal and like objects poses a significant risk of injury and is not acceptable in Milford Haven.

1.  MARINERS ARE HEREBY ADVISED that the practice of weighting heaving lines with infills of metal and like objects poses a significant risk of injury and is not acceptable in Milford Haven.

2.  Monkeys fist, constructed solely of suitable rope, which is not painted, may be used to weight the line for throwing. As an alternative, a fast-draining shingle bag, may be used to weight the heaving line. See Code of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seaman, Consolidated Edition Amendment 2, December 2017 Section 26.3.5.

3.  This Notice is issued under Milford Haven Harbour Byelaws 1984, number 57 and any occurrence of such equipment being used may result in a criminal prosecution.
