A unique project offering urban music, arts and dance activities at Milford Waterfront has received national recognition from Arts & Business Cymru.
During the six weeks of the 2016 summer holidays, the Port of Milford Haven teamed up with Milford Youth Matters, Arts Care Gofal Celf, the VC Gallery and the Torch Theatre to run ‘Under the Bridge’ every Friday evening.
The Port was presented with a handmade award at a ceremony at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff last week by TV presenter and local zoo owner Anna Ryder-Richardson. The project won the Arts, Business and the Environment category, sponsored by the Waterloo Foundation and University of Wales, Trinity St David. Under the Bridge was praised for reducing anti-social behaviour and promoting a sense of ownership, pride and respect for the area and the waterway.
Anna Malloy, PR and Communications Manager at the Port of Milford Haven, said “Under the Bridge created a real buzz at Milford Waterfront throughout the school holidays and provided teenagers with the chance to learn dance, art and DJ skills in a fun and safe environment. Our community partners are experienced in putting on these activities and they delivered some fantastic activities each week. We’re so pleased that Under the Bridge has been recognised and would like to thank Arts & Business Cymru for their support in helping us to form valuable partnerships with community organisations.”
Chief Executive of A&B Cymru, Rachel Jones, commented “I am absolutely delighted that Under the Bridge received the recognition that it deserved at the awards. A&B Cymru has been involved with this innovative and far reaching project since its inception and has always been proud to play a part in a scheme which engages local teenagers in such a creative way. Port of Milford Haven
The Port of Milford Haven is the UK’s top energy port and Wales’ busiest port handling around 20% of Britain’s seaborne trade in oil and gas. It is widely recognised in the industry as the energy capital of the UK.
