As recently announced by Pembrokeshire County Council, Milford Waterfront will not be hosting the opening weekend of Pembrokeshire Fish Festival this year.  Instead it will be held at Lawrenny.

The Port of Milford Haven will, however, be supporting businesses on Milford Waterfront to organise a series of events throughout the week 24th June – 2nd July, and will promote these as a combined week-long calendar of events.

The Port continues to be a passionate supporter of Pembrokeshire Fish Week as a distinctive celebration of so much of what Pembrokeshire does well: of life on and by the water, of great food and drink and of our rich heritage of communities built around fishing and seafood industries.

It is a very busy and exciting year for Milford Waterfront. The Port is working hard to bring forward a number of new developments which form part of the wider Waterfront development, plans that will see wholesale improvements to what’s on offer at this key leisure destination.  In addition, the Port’s team is focused on preparing to host the internationally renowned P1 Powerboat Welsh Grand Prix of the Sea on the weekend of July 15th & 16th, an event that will be publicised around the world and a massive opportunity to put Milford Haven on the map as a tourist destination.

Neil Jenkins, Destination Director at the Port of Milford Haven, said “Our staff have enjoyed organising Milford Fish Festival, having stepped in to ensure an event continued during 2015 whilst the week-long Pembrokeshire Fish Week was suspended.  Pembrokeshire County Council have since re-established the much-loved, county-wide event and the Port wishes the event team every success as it goes in a new direction.

"Whilst we are not hosting the opening weekend of Pembrokeshire Fish Week at Milford Waterfront, we are committed to supporting Pembrokeshire Fish Week. Aside from helping businesses on the marina organise events throughout the week, we are supporting the Lawrenny event by being a base for water taxis to and from the event.
 
"We want everyone to realise that Milford Waterfront is a not only a great location, but also a central base and a gateway to some of the most spectacular waters in Europe,” added Neil. "This river link will be an opportunity for people to visit places on the river they may never have seen before.  So, while we will be sorry not to host our own Fish Festival this year we are backing Pembrokeshire Fish Week all the way, and we are confident it will continue to be a great draw for visitors and locals alike to enjoy Pembrokeshire at its very best.

"The Port of Milford Haven is working hard, alongside Pembrokeshire County Council and Visit Wales, to push the message that our county is a world class destination for many, many reasons. That’s why we will be hosting the hugely popular P1 Powerboat Welsh Grand Prix on Milford Waterfront in July. This is an important first for us and Pembrokeshire, and it will attract new national and international audiences."
