Healthaspire and Trwffl owner Ellen PictonBusiness women from Pembrokeshire are making their mark at Milford Waterfront. During the past twelve months, a number of new businesses have opened their doors to the thousands of visitors and locals choosing to spend their time shopping and socialising in waterfront surroundings.

Following the success of Healthaspire, a nutrition centre run by Ellen Picton, she launched Trwffl with partners Debbie Anthony and Sandra Bevan in September. The team create an impressive range of handmade truffles using dark chocolate which is known to have many health benefits.

With health and wellbeing at the forefront of many people’s minds, holistic therapy is becoming an increasingly popular way to treat ailments. Louise Wiseman of Haven Acupuncture was previously based with Healthaspire but due to her success needed to open her own premises and chose a prime Milford Waterfront location on Nelson Quay.

Louise is delighted with her new premises, commenting “It’s great to be working in such a calm and professional space. Accessibility is superb being on the ground floor, with plenty of parking nearby, and the bright and tranquil setting is lovely.”

Milford Waterfront is fast becoming a go-to destination for fashion followers and is home to two award-winning stores. As well as beautiful collections of seasonal casual wear and accessories for ladies of all ages, Image by Vanessa has gained national recognition, recently being crowned Best Occasion Wear Retailer at the Welsh National Wedding Awards. From mother of the bride to striking one-off pieces, collections are complimented by one of the largest ranges of hats and fascinators in West Wales. Owner Vanessa Hackett has a strong following of ladies who appreciate quality clothing and the personal advice offered by her stylists. Having recently expanded, Image by Vanessa is now offering an even larger range of collections.

In November, Boobaloo Boutique opened its doors at Milford Waterfront following a successful few years at their store in Risca and online. Jacquelyn Morrell and her team are now offering a collection of seasonal wear, together with handbags and accessories, both at the store and online. Jacquelyn was recently awarded the title of Best Fashion Retailer of the Year 2017/18 at the V Awards.

“This is a great time to be in business” said Clare Stowell, Director of Property and Tourism for the Milford Waterfront development. “There are a number of exciting developments and activities planned during 2018 so there will be a fantastic atmosphere for these retailers to operate in. I’m really pleased to see these female-founded companies doing so well and I hope it will inspire others to come and see what Milford Waterfront has to offer.”

Milford Waterfront

Milford Waterfront is a multi-million pound regeneration project being led by the Port of Milford Haven. It aims to revitalise the marina and docks into a vibrant destination, adding to the existing mix of leisure, retail and dining businesses and boosting the economy by providing long term, sustainable jobs.

A number of flagship projects have already been completed at the site including the installation of new lock gates that have significantly reduced locking times and the construction of new fishing buildings for the industry.

The new development will also celebrate the arts, culture and heritage of the area, working in partnership with key stakeholders. The Port already hosts a busy calendar of events at the marina such as Torch Theatre Sunset Cinema screenings and awards ceremonies which add to the diverse range of attractions on the waterfront.

In February 2015, a resolution to grant consent was gained from Pembrokeshire County Council for the development and work is ongoing to finalise detailed plans that will soon be submitted to the local authority.
